The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) recently awarded a $640M low-interest loan to the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District for upgrades to its wastewater system, marking the largest loan ever from the state’s Clean Water State Revolving Fund. The project includes replacing multiple incinerators capable of meeting new air emissions requirements, implementing new sludge dewatering processes, and constructing new solids processing buildings.
The funding provided by DNR is estimated to save the district’s ratepayers about $402M in interest payments over the loan’s 30-year term.
